Our seasonal travel magazine—BROUGHTON QUARTERLY—takes readers to exciting destinations the world over. But it’s not full of typical travel fluff. We focus on meaningful journeys in Broughton territory rather than mere pleasure cruises. And with locations such as Santa Barbara, Solvang, Santa Monica, Chicago, Palm Springs, San Simeon, and Bali—Broughton territory covers some of the world’s greatest places.

Advertising Information

BROUGHTON QUARTERLY is the seasonal magazine of boutique hotel company Broughton Hospitality Group. It reaches a number of travel industry professionals, as well as hotel guests ranging from upscale connoisseurs at Santa Barbara’s finest luxury boutique hotel, the Inn of the Spanish Garden, to business travelers and young families.

Something our readership shares, however, is a common appreciation for unique travel experiences.

Recognizing this, we’ve geared our magazine toward conscientious travel, focusing on meaningful journeys in Broughton territory rather than mere pleasure cruises. And with locations such as Santa Barbara, Solvang, Santa Monica, Palm Springs, Lake County, San Simeon, and Bali—Broughton territory covers some of the world’s most popular travel destinations. In the spirit of boutique travel, Broughton Quarterly celebrates unique ideas around the world and encourages individuals to branch out from the norm.

Between printed and emailed copies, we estimate that nearly 100,000 readers every season enjoy Broughton Quarterly. Having successfully completed our first year of publication, we now feel confident in offering advertising opportunities to select businesses.

Broughton Hospitality is a thriving company that industry publications rate among the nation’s top 100 hotel management companies. Our president, Larry Broughton, is the former VP/Partner of boutique hotel company Joie de Vivre Hospitality, which set the standard for this type of business. Larry was recently honored with the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award for his success in building Broughton Hospitality.

Writers Guidelines

Broughton Quarterly magazine publishes nonfiction articles on a variety of topics that have a bearing on our traveling readers’ lifestyles. We prefer tightly focused stories that are timely and unique, with a positive tone. No generic travel articles please. (For example, an article about the growing popularity of olive oil touring and tasting around Santa Barbara rather than an “article about Santa Barbara.”) Our readership is comprised of travel industry professionals and guests of hotels operated by Broughton Hospitality.

In the spirit of boutique travel, Broughton Quarterly celebrates unique ideas around the world and encourages individuals to branch out from the norm. Our readers share a common appreciation for “outside-the-box” travel experiences. Articles must either tie in to these locations or in some way fit our magazine’s approach to the travel experience.

Sections start at approximately 400 words, with features running 1200-2000 words. A brief query should outline your idea and tell us something about your qualifications as a writer—writing samples are encouraged (preferably published clips). Send queries or completed articles to be considered on-spec in the body of an email—Not As An Attachment—to Editor@BroughtonQuarterly.com.

Payment is determined on an individual basis. Reprints of published articles are considered. Byline is included. All stories published in Broughton Quarterly are placed on the Internet as well, giving more exposure to writers. Payment is upon publication only.

We appreciate your interest in Broughton Quarterly. We hope these guidelines will assist you in submitting work that is suited to our magazine.
