Fall 2008
Angelica Figueroa
The Morgan

For Angelica Figueroa, little gets lost in translation. English as a Second Language was her first priority when she moved from Mexico to California. And now that she speaks well enough to teach English to other Spanish-speaking employees, Figueroa has moved on to sign language. Why sign? For the simple love of communication—and an honest desire to help those in need.

A Front Desk Host at The Morgan at San Simeon Hotel, Figueroa spends most of her spare time helping people in any way she can, whether that means contributing to local fundraisers or donating books to the community library. Her ultimate goal, though, is to manage her own small hotel. Good thing she works at boutique property like The Morgan. Call it a sign.

Summer 2008
Anthony Veltri
The Willows Hotel

We are pleased to recognize Anthony Veltri of The Willows Hotel in Chicago as our most recent recipient of the Honor & Excellence award for making a difference while touching the lives of others. Anthony's commitment to service goes well beyond his role as Guest Services Host.

In 1992, he joined the Army National Guard and went on active duty in Korea, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Bosnia. He then served in the Air Force Reserve, supporting the global war on terrorism and the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. Among his many commendations, Anthony has been awarded two National Defense Medals, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Korean Defense Service Medal. He is currently a Sergeant in the Army National Guard, and is applying to Officer Candidate School.

We are pleased to present Anthony Veltri with Broughton Hospitality's Honor & Excellence award, along with a trophy and check for one thousand dollars.

Spring 2008
Jessie Godoy
The Orchid Inn

Broughton Hospitality is pleased to recognize YESSIKA “JESSIE” GODOY of The Orchid Inn as the most recent recipient of the Honor & Excellence award for making a difference while touching the lives of others. Though she’s still in high school, this young Guest Service Host understands the importance of serving others and seeking significance before success.

Jessie volunteers her considerable energy and talents to several community programs, including the Youth Commission of Paso Robles, where she helps plan such drives as Toys for Tots, Coats for Kids, Loaves for Fishes, and the Special Olympics. She also volunteers at the city library, helping to plan activities and events for local children, and meets with city departments to help keep area parks clean.

Based on her dedication and performance as a Guest Service Host at The Orchid Inn, and her selfless attitude of service to her community, we are pleased to present Jessie with Broughton Hospitality’s Honor & Excellence award, along with a trophy and check for $1,000.

Winter 2007
Barbara Benson-Ross
The Tallman Hotel

Whether setting up display booths at local events or organizing student workshops, Barbara Bensen-Ross is on the move in Northern California, fulfilling the Lake County Arts Council’s mission of advocating, encouraging, and developing arts and cultural activities.

An active member of the Soper-Reese Renovation Committee, she helps raise funds to restore and operate a time-honored theater on the main street of Lakeport.

Barbara is also involved with the Lake County Symphony Orchestra and the Clearlake Performing Arts, which has been active in the community for 28 years. Her contacts within the local arts committee have proven to be a great asset to the Tallman Hotel, where she has served as Guest Services Host since June of 2006. For her commitment to the arts, her gracious manners, and her infectious smile, we are pleased to award Barbara with $1,000 and a commemorative crystal trophy recognizing her for “Honor & Excellence".

Fall 2007
Carmen Salas
The Georgian Hotel

Guest comment cards are perhaps the single best indicator of a hotel’s performance. Honest and direct, they confront issues head-on, with no punches pulled. So it means a lot when a guest has kind things to say about a Broughton Hospitality team member.

And it means worlds when a third of the comment cards returned at a landmark hotel like the Georgian mention the same name–in this case, CARMEN SALAS.

We are delighted to recognize Carmen as our most recent recipient of the Honor & Excellence award for her distinguished service, genuine kindness, and strength in the face of adversity. Since losing her husband, Carmen has raised their four kids alone. Her youngest son is autistic, but instead of wallowing in self-pity she participates in support groups for parents of children with autism. Her upbeat nature, in spite of life’s hardships, inspires guests and coworkers alike.

We are pleased to recognize Carmen with this award, and to present her with a commemorative crystal trophy and a check for $1000.

Summer 2007
Blanca Gonzalez
Inn of the Spanish Garden

We are pleased to recognize BLANCA GONZALEZ of Santa Barbara’s Inn of the Spanish Garden as our most recent recipient of the Honor & Excellence award. As a Guest Services Host, Blanca puts visitors at ease, using her genuine warmth and approachability to make them feel welcome.

She serves as Vice President of the Women’s Department at her local church, where she assists women experiencing difficult, often life-altering, circumstances.

A single mother of two children, she finds time to support, counsel, and coach these women toward their goals of self-reliance and significance. Tapping into her own well of life experiences, Blanca has successfully guided a number of women to their potential. For many of these people, she has become the role model of dignity in the face of adversity. Never one to be defeated, she recognizes that goals can be achieved by focusing on the small steps in front of us and tenaciously moving forward.

We are pleased to recognize Blanca with this award, and to present her with a commemorative crystal trophy and a check for $1000.

Spring 2007
Dani Golson
Wine Valley Inn

We are pleased to recognize DANI GOLSON of Wine Valley Inn in Solvang, CA as our most recent recipient of the Honor & Excellence award. As a Guest Services Host, Dani exhibits exceptional patience and professionalism. Her can-do attitude keeps the hotel flowing smoothly, and her warm personality, positive energy, and considerate nature inspire her team members.

As part of her high school curriculum, Dani was required to participate in community volunteer work, and she quickly recognized there is no higher calling than serving others. Now a college student, she has fully integrated volunteer work as part of her life. “I really enjoy helping others,” she says, “but I seem to get more fulfillment from volunteering than those I help.” Dani has worked as a volunteer coach at basketball camp and served holiday meals to the needy. Through a program at her church, she “adopts” families during the holiday season. She visits hospitalized children to ensure their needs are met while separated from their families, and she participates in local Earth Day events to raise eco-consciousness in her community.

We are pleased to present Dani with our Broughton Hospitality Group Honor & Excellence award, along with a crystal trophy and a check for $1000.

Winter 2006
Justina Serrano
Georgian Hotel

We are pleased to recognize Justina Serrano of the Georgian Hotel as our most recent recipient of the Honor & Excellence award. 20 years of service at the Santa Monica landmark hotel have seen Justina touch the lives of countless others. Four to five times a year, she collects clothing, toys, and household supplies and donates them to the local homeless and others in need.

She also distributes essential goods to the needy in her Mexican hometown of Tepatitlán, Jalisco. Co-workers describe the Housekeeping Supervisor as “an amazing and loving woman who cares deeply for the poor.” She often takes time out of her schedule to visit ill people who simply desire companionship, including a woman with a brain tumor who’s been bedridden for 40 years.

For Justina Serrano’s selflessness and positive spirit, we are pleased to present her with Broughton Hospitality’s Honor & Excellence award, along with a trophy and check for $1000.

Fall 2006
Arnna-Marie Egan
Tallman Hotel

We are pleased to recognize Arnna-Marie Egan of The Tallman Hotel in Upper Lake, CA as the most recent recipient of the Honor & Excellence award for her compassion and proactivity following Hurricane Katrina.

Armed with a can-do attitude, Arnna rallied Lake County residents, business owners, and public officials to directly assist the small town of Lake Providence, Louisiana—a community once declared the poorest town in the nation. Her “Shirts Off Our Backs” event raised over $9,000 and saw dancing in the streets, as Lake County locals banded together on stage to quite literally auction the shirts off their back to the highest bidder.

Arnna’s event was so successful it’s become a yearly tradition in Lake County. The 2nd Annual Shirts Off Our Backs event is scheduled for October 7, 2006, with proceeds going to charities that benefit the Upper Lake community.

For her leadership and positive spirit, Arnna-Marie Egan has been presented with Broughton Hospitality Group’s Honor & Excellence trophy and a check for $1000.

Summer 2006
Linn McNamara
Hotel California

With her trademark upbeat attitude and warm smile, Linn McNamara enchants her fellow staff members and guests at The Hotel California, in Santa Monica. But there’s more to Linn than just a sweet smile, there’s a depth of character that distinguishes her.

Linn’s daughter suffered a collapsed lung at birth, and as a result her brain never fully developed. As an adult, her daughter gave birth to her own child – a baby boy.

With unwavering dignity, Linn excels in the roles of proud grandmother, mother, long-term provider, caretaker, counselor, and babysitter…all while working her full-time position as Hotel California’s Guest Services Host.

We are pleased to present Linn McNamara with Broughton Hospitality Group’s Honor & Excellence award, along with a trophy and check for $1000.

Congratulations Linn!

Andrea Cordoza
Inn of the Spanish Garden

In light of her outstanding guest service and off-the-clock altruism, Andrea Cordoza of Santa Barbara’s Inn of the Spanish Garden has been selected as this quarter’s recipient of the Honor & Excellence award. Andrea consistently distinguishes herself as a star team member, performing duties admirably, with a gentle demeanor that draws frequent recognition from guests.

Click here to learn more about the Sarah House.

Her dedication comes without fanfare, but we believe Andrea Cordozo deserves recognition. As the head of her household, with a college age son, she epitomizes the essence of the Honor & Excellence award, and we are proud to bestow it on her, along with a trophy and check for $1000.

Congratulations Andrea!
